Newbury, NH – (July 9, 2015) – Sidewinder, a second mile-long trail, has opened at the Evolution Bike Park.  There are now two mile-long trails for downhill mountain biking in the Evolution Bike Park, the newest addition to the Adventure Park at Mount Sunapee.

Sidewinder is rated advanced intermediate while the Dirt Serpent trail, which was the first trail to open in the Evolution Bike Park this spring, is rated easier.   Sidewinder features more technical sections including a rock garden, bridges, ramps and other wooden structures.  The trail has jump lines and natural terrain features, but also has alternate routes (b-lines) around some of these features.  A third trail is under construction and scheduled to open in August with a fourth trail planned for the fall.

“We want the Evolution Bike Park to be a place where we can introduce everyone to downhill mountain biking, which is why our first trail was an easier, family-friendly trail”, says Dave Keaveny, adventure park manager. “The Sidewinder trail adds a whole new dimension to the Park for intermediate and advanced riders.  B-lines around some of the more difficult features on Sidewinder allow novice riders to transition to this more challenging trail.”

Riders are encouraged to bring their own bike as long as it has at least front suspension, well functioning brakes and fat tires.  Helmets are also required.

For beginner downhill riders a Start Here package is available, which includes a 90-minute clinic on how to ride and maneuver a downhill mountain bike, Specialized® bike rental with protective gear and trail fee.  The clinic includes the guide accompanying the guests on a practice loop at the base of South Peak as well as their first run down the Dirt Serpent trail.

New 2015 Specialized® downhill mountain bikes with full suspension are available for rent with sizing for riders ages 10 and older.  Bike rentals also include a helmet and knee and elbow pads.  Additional protective gear is available for rent to riders who bring their own bikes.

The Evolution Bike Park operates out of the Snowsports Shop in the Sunapee Lodge.  The shop offers bike accessories, as well as summer apparel, winter sale items, disc golf supplies, Mount Sunapee logo wear and souvenirs.

Reservations are recommended for the Start Here instructional bike package and bike rental packages.  For reservations and more information call 603-763-3564 or visit
