Newbury, NH – (June 17, 2009) – Tim and Diane Mueller, owners of Mount Sunapee Resort, are pleased to announce the five recipients of the Mount Sunapee Council Scholarship Awards for the 2009 school year. These scholarships, at $5,000 each over a four year period, have been awarded from the Mount Sunapee Community Challenge Fund to students of our three regional high schools: Sunapee, Newport and Kearsarge.
Funding for the Mount Sunapee Community Challenge Fund is from the Snow Ball Gala held at Mount Sunapee Resort. The Fund is used for the Mount Sunapee Council Scholarships and to support student education, environmental education and the arts in the Lake Sunapee region. Since 1999, 57 students have received over $246,000 in scholarships from the Mount Sunapee Community Challenge Fund.
“Tim and I believe that education is central to our local prosperity and to an individual’s ability to achieve their career goals and lead a fulfilling life,” commented Diane Mueller. “These scholarship programs support our belief of fostering education and enhancing community spirit.”
Mount Sunapee Resort also awards four scholarships of $1,000 each to Mount Sunapee Resort employee students and employee dependents allowing them to further their academic endeavors
Mount Sunapee Council Scholarships have been awarded to the following five high school seniors for 2009:

Jake Cline of Newbury, NH, a graduate of Kearsarge Regional High School, earned a 3.79 gpa and is a member of the National Honor Society. He was a member of the concert band, concert choir and jazz band. Jake played four years of football and is a proud member of the 2009 KRHS State Championship lacrosse team. He will attend Syracuse University and major in Bioengineering.
Chloe Fleming of Sunapee, NH, a graduate of Sunapee Middle High School, earned valedictorian honors as the top ranked student academically in her senior class. A member of the National Honor Society, she also participated in varsity volleyball, softball and cross-country skiing. Chloe was also very active in the Thespian Society with lead roles in many plays. She will attend The University of Tampa and major in Marine Biology.
Benjamin Naylor of Newport, NH, a graduate of Newport Middle High School, ranked 3rd academically in his class of 94 students. He was a member of both the alpine and nordic ski teams. A National Merit Scholarship Commended Scholar in 2008, Benjamin also participated in 4-H, the student council and local theater. He plans to attend University of New Hampshire and major in Electrical Engineering.
Abby Peel of New London, NH, a graduate of Kearsarge Regional High School, earned a 2.98 gpa and was an Honor Roll student all four years of high school. She was on the varsity ski team and received the Tri Athlete Award in 2008. As an intern for the Yankee Cable Network where she was a script writer and on-air host and the school announcer, it is no wonder that Abby will be attending Endicott College where she will major in Media Studies.
Kevin Roisin of Croydon, NH will be attending Bentley University where he will be majoring in Management Information Systems (MIS). Kevin maintained a 4.0 gpa during high school. He is an accomplished classical string bass musician and has played in the orchestra at the North Country Community Theater. He is also a competitive swimmer and is a Red Cross certified lifeguard. Kevin was a student writer for the Valley News.
Mount Sunapee Employee Dependent Student Scholarships
Nick Cain of Sunapee, NH is a graduate of Sunapee Middle High School and will be attending the Massachusetts College of Art & Design in the fall where he will major in Graphic Design. At Sunapee Middle High School he was on the varsity cross country ski team and was in the Thespian Society all four years. He contributed copy and art to Folio, the school publication.
Michael Dubreuil of Henniker, NH, a graduate of John Stark Regional High School, earned a 4.09 gpa and was valedictorian of his graduating class. Michael participated in the student council, robotics team and cross country ski team all four years in high school. He received numerous academic awards and worked on the Fun Squad at Pats Peak for three winters. He will be attending Cornell University where he will major in Biochemistry.
Mount Sunapee Resort Employee Student Scholarships
Brooke Bergeron of Goshen, NH is a graduate of Newport Middle High School and will be attending Keene State College where she will major in Criminal Justice/Psychology. Brooke was on the varsity cheerleading team and is an accomplished candlepin bowler. During the winter she worked at the bag check at Mount Sunapee.
Sarah Himes of North Sutton, NH is currently attending New Hampshire Technical Institute where she is majoring in Criminal Justice. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, a chapter of the National Honors Society, where she has just been nominated for President. During the winter Sarah works as a waitress in Goosefeathers Pub at Mount Sunapee.
